Walter I. Fried, Ph.D., M.D.

Since 1977, Dr. Walter Fried has been practicing in the North Lake County area. He opened his private practice in Gurnee in 1979 and has been at his current location since 1984. Dr. Fried specializes in small-incision cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation, and refractive surgery, including excimer laser correction of nearsightedness and astigmatism, and Conductive Keratoplasty for presbyopia.
Dr. Fried earned both his Ph.D. in physics, and M.D. at the University of Miami in Florida. He completed his medical training in Chicago with a medical internship at Michael Reese Hospital and an ophthalmic residency at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He has written numerous scientific/medical research papers on physics, medical instrumentation and clinical ophthalmology. He holds a patent on an ophthalmic surgical microscope.
A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Fried also is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He also maintains memberships in the Outpatient Ophthalmic Surgery Society; American College of Eye Surgeons; American Medical Association; Lake County Medical Society; and the Optical Society of America. In addition, he has served as a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and is a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Chicago Medical School.
Michael Savitt, M.D.

Michael Savitt, M.D. received his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He furthered his education at Rush Medical College in Chicago, where he earned his medical degree in 1987.
Dr. Savitt has gained experience at several of the countries leading medical facilities. An internship at Columbus Hospital in Chicago preceded a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1991, Dr. Savitt began a Fellowship at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, specializing in the study and treatment of glaucoma. He was appointed Director, Glaucoma Service for Loyola University in July 1992.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Savitt also contributes time to the education of future eye care professionals. He has been Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush Medical College since 1997. Other academic positions held at Rush Medical College include: Advisory Board to the Chairman, Dept. of Ophthalmology; Admissions; Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology; Instructor, Rush Review Course; Director, Advances in the Management of Glaucoma and Related Anterior Segment Disorders.
An active member of the medical community, Dr. Savitt has authored several publications and has given many presentations on the subject of Glaucoma. He is also proud to belong to the Chicago Medical Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Illinois Association of Ophthalmology, the Chicago Glaucoma Society (President), the Chicago Ophthalmological Society (Program Chairman), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (Fellow).
Brian J. Jacobs, M.D.
Walter I. Fried Ph.D., M.D. is pleased to announce the association of Brian J. Jacobs, M.D. for the practice of General Ophthalmology and Glaucoma. Dr. Jacobs is a graduate of Rush Medical College.
He completed Ophthalmology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois and Fellowship in Glaucoma at the University of Illinois Eye and Infirmary in Chicago.
